MIZUNA ART · BUYING GUIDES

What is a signed limited-edition giclée print?

A print edition reproduces an original painting. Its materials, signature and edition information explain what you are buying.

It begins with an original oil painting

Mizuna’s golf editions begin as original oil paintings. The print reproduces that painted work; it is a separate object from the original. If you want the painted original itself, look for a product described as an original oil painting.

The paper and ink matter

The editions are printed in Britain with archival pigment inks on heavyweight 310gsm fine-art cotton paper. “310gsm” describes the paper’s weight per square metre. The product page should explain the materials rather than relying only on the word giclée.

A signature and an edition number

Each Mizuna print is checked, signed and individually numbered by hand. A signature identifies the artist’s involvement; the edition number records its place in the limited release. Neither should be confused with the number of artworks included in an order.

An edition and a pair are different things

The Augusta release is limited to 100 numbered pairs, each containing Golden Bell and Azalea. The St Andrews edition is capped at 100, with both artworks included in each of the final six editions. These are different release histories, so read the particular product’s description.

The Augusta and St Andrews pages explain their contents and edition limits.

Keep the certificate with the artwork

Mizuna’s signed editions include a certificate of authenticity. Keep it with the artwork’s records, particularly if the work is a gift or will later change hands. It records the release rather than promising an investment return.

Choose for the work you want to live with

An edition limit is part of the artwork’s identity. It does not guarantee that a print will increase in value. Choose the course, painting and format because they matter to you.
